Next, I’ll explain the lens I use to view this workflow software and the key features to consider when choosing a tool.
Comparison Criteria
What should I look for in a process workflow management system? Here is a summary of my evaluation criteria.
User Interface (UI). I am looking for a process workflow app that is visually easy to understand and intuitive.
Usability: I look at features and add-ons that can be used to accomplish the task (creating workflows within the tool).
Integrations: I examine the third-party software with which the tool works. I’d like to see if these integrations can improve the user experience.
Value for $: I consider whether the tool offers a free version, a free trial, or if the starting price for their paid plans.
Process Workflow Software Key Features
Process or Workflow Builder: Software that allows me to create a process without programming. It should be easy to use and intuitive, with many options and connectors that allow you to create relationships between tasks.
Automations in Workflow: These are the ways I can make seemingly trivial tasks happen by themselves, such as changing a task’s status or moving a task from one stage to another. Or trigger an action in 3rd-party software like Slack.
Testing Environment: This feature allows me to sandbox the process that I’ve just created and test it to see if it works.
Whiteboards: These are places where I can draw diagrams or process flows “on paper”, before I move on to the creation stage.
